FFmpegx

 

Ffmpegx is a very flexible application used to transcode video files from one format to another specifically useful for getting files ready for distributing on the Internet. It can also create simple DVDs, extract Subtitle files from DVDs. It is a freeware front end for a number of Free Software tools. It has become very popular as once set up, it is very user friendly. There are a number of presets which make it simple to get files ready for iPods and DVD's to name just a couple of the settings.

Ideally a Free Software application will come along to replace this one. Avidemux is nearly there but not quite. The  home page for  ffmpegx is here. http://www.ffmpegx.com
